Scania V8 XTMechanical Presence
Complexity, brought into focus.
A study in mass, material and mechanical detail. Fifteen matched studio stills present the Scania V8 XT through finished surfaces, clay studies and wireframe views, inside a purpose-built digital atelier.

A complex object.
A deliberate image.
Built around Ivo Jardim's Scania V8 XT CAD assembly, Mechanical Presence explores how a complex mechanical object can be made legible through image-making. A newly modeled atelier, CNC cradle and mechanical specimen plinth establish a precise setting for the engine. Surface finishes, controlled reflections and deliberate camera positions bring its castings, hardware and turbo assembly into focus.
The engine and its component exhibit move through finished materials, neutral clay and exposed wireframe in five matched compositions. The atelier and display furniture retain their quiet, neutral finishes throughout. A library of seventeen procedural finishes gives the finished assembly a distinct response to the light, from its cast surfaces to the detail of the turbo.

01 / Material studies
The finished object.
Controlled reflections trace the engine's castings, while considered surface finishes separate structure, hardware and pipework. The modeled atelier and display furniture give five compositions a consistent sense of scale and presence.
02 / Clay studies
Form, without distraction.
A uniform neutral material brings the engine and its component exhibit into focus. Across the same five camera positions, mass, silhouette and the relationship between parts become the subject. The atelier and display furniture remain a quiet, neutral context.
03 / Wireframe studies
Anatomy of an image.
Fine mesh edges reveal the tessellated CAD of the engine and its component exhibit. Five matched views connect the finished object to its construction, while the atelier and display furniture remain neutral.
